County Information

Rock County is named after…you guessed it, a ROCK.  A special rock along the Rock River, which was used as a gathering place by Native Americans.  Rock County is split north to south by the Rock River, creating plenty of opportunities for fishing and water recreation.
Visitors can enjoy the many parks, trails, and historical locations including Beckman Mill, Lincoln-Tallman House and the Milton House, which was part of the Underground Railroad.  Other things not to miss are the farmers markets, Rotary Botanical Gardens, Freedom Fest, Rock River Thresheree and the 4-H Fair.  Rock County is the home of Beloit Snapper Minor League Baseball, Rock Aqua Jays, Rock County Rage Amateur Football, and Janesville Jets Hockey.  Other entertainment can be found at the Armory, Performing Arts Centers and community festivals throughout the year.
Rock County is the “Gateway to Wisconsin” with I90/39 beginning at the Illinois border leading commercial and tourism traffic into the state.  Rock County’s economy includes many commercial, industrial and agricultural enterprises supported by some of the richest soils in the state.
